Prepare for a red blend so suave, it practically wears a velvet jacket
This wine doesn't just harmonise; it orchestrates a symphony in your glass, combining Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Pinot Noir.
The vineyards for this wine, aged between 12 and 15 years, sit on the south-eastern slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain at Plaisir Estate. Planted in weathered, decomposed granite soils and shaded by high mountain peaks from the late afternoon sun, ripening slows down – allowing for beautifully developed fruit complexity and well-ripened, refined tannins.
Aromas of black cherry, cassis, spice, vanilla and oak lead into a full-bodied yet elegant wine. Rich with blackberries, dark fruit and hints of white chocolate, it opens up to layers of cigar box, pencil shavings and a touch of sweetness on the finish. Subtle, well-integrated tannins carry through, making this fruit-forward wine both mature and age-worthy – and a brilliant match for hearty dishes like red meats and mushrooms.
Charles Marais, a Huguenot peasant from Le Plessis Marly in the Ile de France region wanted a better life for his family. They were plagued by drought, famine, crippling taxes and ensuing poverty. These factors coupled with religious persecution saw them setting sail for the Cape in 1687 where Charles and his family settled; that was the very beginning of Plaisir Wine Estate
The beautiful Plaisir Wine Estate is situated at the foot of the Simonsberg Mountain between Paarl and Franschhoek. The wines produced here are inspired by the harmony of a rich history, the fertile soil and lush vineyards.
