This bottle is your silent partner in crime, turning ordinary evenings into a red carpet affair, where every pour is an encore and every glass is a standing ovation to your impeccable taste.
About the wine
The vineyards for this wine, aged between 12 and 15 years, sit on the south-eastern slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain at Plaisir Estate. Planted in weathered, decomposed granite soils and shaded by high mountain peaks from the late afternoon sun, ripening slows down – allowing for beautifully developed fruit complexity and well-ripened, refined tannins.
Tasting notes
On the nose, expect violets, sweet plummy black fruits, and a subtle undertone of graphite. The palate opens with a burst of ripe plum and blackberry, carried by a full-bodied Merlot structure. There's a plush balance between tannin and acidity, with layers of fragrant red berries, mint chocolate, black cherries and plums, wrapped in vanilla spice, clove, and cedar oak. It all leads to a soft, velvety finish that lingers.
About the winemaker
Charles Marais, a Huguenot peasant from Le Plessis Marly in the Ile de France region wanted a better life for his family. They were plagued by drought, famine, crippling taxes and ensuing poverty. These factors coupled with religious persecution saw them setting sail for the Cape in 1687 where Charles and his family settled; that was the very beginning of Plaisir Wine Estate
The beautiful Plaisir Wine Estate is situated at the foot of the Simonsberg Mountain between Paarl and Franschhoek. The wines produced here are inspired by the harmony of a rich history, the fertile soil and lush vineyards.
