A wine so bold, it once arm-wrestled a Shiraz just for fun
When your evening needs a touch of rebellious sophistication, this Cabernet struts in with the swagger of a secret agent in a tuxedo. It's not just a wine; it's the mysterious accomplice to your culinary capers, making every steak dinner feel like a high-stakes affair where the only crime is not savouring every drop.
The vineyards for this wine, aged between 12 and 15 years, sit on the south-eastern slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain at Plaisir Estate. Planted in weathered, decomposed granite soils and shaded by high mountain peaks from the late afternoon sun, ripening slows down – allowing for beautifully developed fruit complexity and well-ripened, refined tannins.
A classic Simonsberg Cabernet with dark blueberry, redcurrant and a touch of graphite on the nose. The palate balances vibrant fruit and structured tannins, echoing the aromas with fragrant red berries, black cherries and plums. Hints of violets, mint chocolate, vanilla spice, clove and cedar oak unfold into a layered, velvety finish that lingers long after the last sip.
Charles Marais, a Huguenot peasant from Le Plessis Marly in the Ile de France region wanted a better life for his family. They were plagued by drought, famine, crippling taxes and ensuing poverty. These factors coupled with religious persecution saw them setting sail for the Cape in 1687 where Charles and his family settled; that was the very beginning of Plaisir Wine Estate
The beautiful Plaisir Wine Estate is situated at the foot of the Simonsberg Mountain between Paarl and Franschhoek. The wines produced here are inspired by the harmony of a rich history, the fertile soil and lush vineyards.
