Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz from a vineyard set up by an ex-Harrods director.
About the wine
Smooth, spicy, sprightly and as sure-footed as a mountain goat. Bartinney's vines teeter perilously on the satanically steep slopes of Helshoogte - Hell's Heights - Pass, but just like a mountain goat they never put a hoof wrong. A classic Bordeaux-inspired blend with a firm footing in our hearts.
Tasting notes
On the nose, this red blend offers aromas of ripe blueberries, plum, and black currant, complemented by subtle notes of cedar, vanilla, and pie crust. The palate reveals flavours of plums, blueberries, and figs, leading to a juicy red fruit finish. The wine's structure is enhanced by its vibrant fruit profile and balanced tannins.
About the winemaker
Established in 1912, Bartinney has been in the Jordaan family since 1953. Now Michael and Rose Jordaan tend to the 28-hectare farm, with a vision to create excellent wines and reawaken the charm of the historic land. And charming is right: perched on the dramatic slopes of Botmaskop alongside the Helshoogte Pass, overlooking the picturesque Banghoek Valley in Stellenbosch. Google it if you want to feel disappointed in the view from your own front window.
