Syrah/Grenache from organic vineyards promoting biodiversity & butterflies.
Powerful but fresh is how the Fabre family describe the reds they produce between Avignon and Nîmes at Domaine St Honorat. We think that makes it sound a little bit like mouthwash or bleach though, which couldn't be further from the truth. Powerful black berry fruit flavours baked in beneath the hot sun, but kept fresh by their organic certified farming methods, no nasty chemicals here, and the absence of oak ageing. A great "anytime" wine.
The 2020 Domaine St Honorat Rouge opens with powerful blackberry fruit flavours, baked in beneath the hot sun. On the palate, it is silky smooth with notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, jelly sweets, and a touch of cocoa. The wine is full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a rich, harmonious finish.
There has been a fashion for producing organic wines in recent years, but the Fabre family have always made wine organically, it is in their DNA. Made as far south as you can get in the Côtes du Rhône, here it is really hot, but the Mistral, a cold wind that can reach speeds of 60mph, whips through the vineyards and helps to keep the vines cool and dry.
