Les Trois Quartiers is a Chinon made from 100% old-vine Cabernet Franc. It is positioned by the domain as a gastronomic cuvée that brings volume and generosity while staying delicate. The 2021 vintage is described as cool and wet, producing a notably Loire-like style that needed time to open up. It was made with a 20-day maceration in tronconic oak vats, then aged for 18 months, split between concrete and used barriques.
Tasting notes
A poised, quietly generous Cabernet Franc that feels more polished than punchy. Expect a wine with savoury depth, a rounded shape and a restrained, food-friendly profile rather than anything overly flashy — structured enough for the table, but still supple and inviting. That reading is based on the producer’s emphasis on delicacy, volume, gastronomy and the long maceration plus mixed concrete/barrique ageing.
About the winemaker
Domaine Jourdan was founded in 1983 in Cravant-les-Coteaux, between Chinon and l’Île-Bouchard. After Philippe Pichard, it was run by Annick and Francis Jourdan, and entered a new phase in 2022 with the arrival of Laurent Dumas. The estate has long worked with environmentally respectful farming, was certified organic in 2008 and Demeter biodynamic in 2016. Today it farms 18 hectares, including a rare 1.5 hectares of Chenin Blanc, and day-to-day operations are led by Cédric Monory.
