Hike in an ancient forest, but who’s got time for that? Have a glass of this instead.
About the wine
Find a spot in a damp ancient forest, where you can sit down after a long hike and take in the haunting scent of wet leaves and smoke from a nearby cabin, while you nosh on some wild strawberries and raspberries on toast. Drinking Nathalie and Pascal’s Sancerre Rouge is the exact same sensation, except you won’t be able to stop thinking about it for weeks on end, just like the Humble Wine Team who can’t stop geeking over it when they first tried it. 100% Pinot Noir that has been hand-harvested just from a mere 1.3 hectares, and then rests for a glorious 12-18 months. Patience is key with The B-C Sancerre Rouge, but boy is it worth it.
The letter “B” and “C” correspond to the first letter of the name from the parcels used for the wine (Bonardelle, Grand Clou and Petit Clou).
Harvested by hands. 35 years old on average. Grass has been grown between the rows for the last 15 years.
Tasting notes
This Pinot Noir from Domaine Michel Vattan offers a nose of fresh raspberries, cherries, and subtle earthy spices. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with lively acidity and soft tannins, presenting flavors of red fruits, vanilla, and a touch of smokiness, leading to a long, satisfying finish.
About the winemaker
Located Northwest of Sancerre is the sleepy storybook village of Sury En Vaux is where Roger and Andrée Vattan established the family business and purchased the first 2 football fields worth of vines in 1930. The lucky recipient of the family business was their son, Michel, who grew this pocket-sized estate into a whopping 9-hectare estate and was supported by Nathalie and Pascal Joulin, who joined the estate in 2002. Understanding the know-hows of Domaine Michel Vattan and with no Vattan heir in sight, armed Nathalie and Pascal to take over the estate in 2008. Since then, the Joulins are guided by the rhythms of Mother Nature to grow high quality fruit that transforms into nervy Sancerres of Domaine Michel Vattan.
