In 2024, Château Edmus, a biodynamic vineyard in Saint-Émilion, is launching a groundbreaking alcohol-free wine called Zero by Edmus. The goal is to provide the experience of a fine wine for those who cannot or prefer not to drink alcohol, such as for religious, health, or lifestyle reasons.

The process: They used reverse osmosis to gently reduce the wine's alcohol content to just 0.2% over three days. To restore balance after removing alcohol, they added grape must for sweetness and gum arabic for texture, mimicking the qualities of regular wine.

This dealcoholized wine is priced similar to conventional wines. However, it cannot be labeled as organic or use the Saint-Émilion appellation due to current regulations. Despite this, it’s received positive feedback, and Château Edmus is leading the conversation around the future of alcohol-free wines.
