Burgundy’s finesse with a rebellious Pfalz twist
German Chardonnay? Oh yes, and this one wears its Imperiale title with well-earned confidence. From the renowned Von Winning estate, this 2020 vintage is a masterclass in precision and power. Decadent yet disciplined, opulent yet fresh—this is Chardonnay that doesn’t just compete on the world stage; it commands it. Pour a glass, take a bow.
Aromas of ripe stone fruit, citrus zest, and flinty minerality. Ripe golden apple, toasted hazelnut, and a whisper of smoky oak glide across a luxuriously textured palate, all kept in check by razor-sharp acidity. Elegant, layered, and endlessly fresh.
Humble heroes. From their intriguing (and award-winning) Rieslings to their groundbreaking Pinot Noirs, we love every wine and winemaker from this family-run estate. Founded in 1849 by Dr. Deinhard, developed by his son-in-law Leopold von Winning in 1907, the estate was revived in 2007 by Achim Niederberger, together with the Bassermann-Jordan and von Buhl properties. Tragically Herr Niederberger died in 2013, and his wife Jana now steers the ship. No herbicides, no synthetic fertilisers, no copper, no filtering and no fining. Every bottle is a winner.
