“Apricots” is The Ojai Vineyard’s vibrant red blend, crafted by Adam Tolmach from select vineyards across Santa Barbara County. Combining Grenache and Sangiovese, it offers a playful contrast to Ojai’s single-vineyard bottlings, highlighting the freshness and energy that define Tolmach’s coastal, low-intervention style.
Tasting Notes
Bright and aromatic, the 2019 Apricots shows lively red fruits—cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate—layered with savoury spice, herbs, and a touch of earth. The palate is juicy and lifted, with silky tannins and a crisp, mouth-watering finish. A wine that feels both easy-going and precise.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with Mediterranean-inspired dishes: tomato-based pastas, grilled vegetables, lamb with rosemary, or pizza with cured meats. It also pairs beautifully with lighter fare such as roasted chicken or charcuterie.
About the winemaker
Adam Tolmach, a pioneer of Santa Barbara winemaking, founded The Ojai Vineyard in 1983 after co-founding Au Bon Climat with Jim Clendenen. A champion of cool-climate viticulture, Tolmach emphasises balance, purity, and terroir expression, crafting wines that are elegant, age-worthy, and often described as the most Burgundian of California’s Central Coast. “Apricots” reflects his dedication to approachable yet characterful wines that remain true to their origins.
