If Hermitage and the Right Bank of Bordeaux had a wine baby, it would certainly the Sholto from Mitre’s Edge.
About the wine
Named in honour of the winemaker’s father, Sholto is a flagship Bordeaux-style blend where structure meets elegance. Aged to perfection and built for the long haul, this wine shows off the depth and complexity Paarl can deliver when everything aligns. Polished, powerful, and unmistakably premium—it’s the kind of red that doesn’t just sit on the table, it leads it.
Tasting notes
This wine presents a deep garnet colour with a nose of Christmas cake notes and confected fruit. On the palate, it is smooth and well-balanced, showing soft black cherries, tobacco, and a hint of pepper. The fine tannins and layered complexity give it both richness and elegance, with a long, graceful finish.
About the winemaker
Family-owned and managed boutique winery, Mitre’s Edge, is nestled at the foothills of the Simonsberg Mountain, between Paarl and Stellenbosch. It is in this beautiful setting that winemaker Lola Nicholls, assisted by husband Bernard, focuses on producing relatively smaller quantities of high-quality, award-winning wines.
Bernard was a mechanical engineer before becoming the agronomist of the estate while Lola got her passion from her dad who was a viticultural expert.
