With over 45 days of skin fermentation and 5 months of skin contact, resulting in a lively, complex flavour explosion that even Grandpappy himself would tip his hat to.

About the wine

Making the "grandfathers'" white wine was a challenge for Lazar to bring back the traditional white wine consumed in the Tikveš region, ever known as “kominjarnik”. The traditional wine has very long maceration on the skins, for several months, and is consumed daily from the tap, all over winter, sip by sip by the end of March.

Lazar Winery Orange Wine has been produced from the indigenous grape Smederevka with fermentation of the grapes for more than 45 days in open-air tanks and an additional 5 months of skin contact. Late-harvested, perfectly healthy grapes and the thick-skinned Smederevka grapes give the wines rich extract, lively freshness and complex aromas.

Tasting notes

This orange wine shows a rich amber colour with a complex and aromatic nose of walnut, caramel, dry stone fruits, and mineral undertones. On the palate, it is dry with medium-plus acidity and medium intensity, offering layered flavours of citrus, stone fruits, and nut. The amphora ageing brings added texture and elegance, resulting in a structured wine with a savoury, mineral-led finish.

About the winemaker

Lazar Winery is always looking to find some special grapes for making special and rare wines to bring to the consumers, and Lazar Ristov is the best winemaker you haven't heard of – yet! We love to find awesome little wineries like this and share them with you, and once you have a taste, you'll wonder why they weren't here sooner.

Hidden away in North Macedonia, a country steeped in rich winemaking history, Lazar Allure Cuvées are produced from specially selected vineyards from the village of Kurija in the Tikvesh wine region, one mile from the winery. These attractive wines have more structure of primary and secondary aromas, a dose of minerality, medium acidity, a full body, and well-integrated alcohol.
