Ungeheuer can be translated as immense, enormous, or colossal.
100% late-harvest Riesling from the Ungeheuer Grand Cru site in Forst. 100% (not partly) fermented in 225l barrels, this spends about 7 months in the barrel. No fining agents (chemicals added to remove organic compounds left over from fermentation) are added at all, and this leads to a pure, almost salty taste of minerals together with a complex structure rarely encountered in white wines.
Von Winning is a new venture born from the original Deinhard winery established in 1849 in Deidesheim. And it was no surprise when French wine guide Gault & Millau gave them a Newcomer of the year 2012 award. They said that: "The Managing director is as idiosyncratic as the wines are - a real personality! A huge gain for Deidesheim and the German wine scene."
