Mini Super Tuscan. Chianti plus Cabernet Sauvignon. An unpretentious classic.
An unpretentious classic. Winemaker Tommaso Paglione wonderfully recommends serving this wine with sandwiches. He isn’t bad mouthing his own wine, he is just saying that this is a super-versatile everyday wine. It’s a Mini Super Tuscan, Chianti declassified because of a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon. We like to think of it as Tignanello for a Tuesday.
Slap-bang in the middle of Chianti Classico territory, where the days are hot, the nights are chilly, the soil is harsh on the vines and the grapes produce delicious fruit in protest at it all. Given to the monks of the Abbey of Badia in Passignano around 1200, Vecchie Terre di Montefili has been producing wine for the best part of a millennium. Roccaldo Acuti bought the land in 1979 and now his family and Winemaker Tommaso Paglione create unpretentious classics on the regular.
