Wine from the old land, but in a very new style. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon with only 40% of the traditional Sangiovese, aged in French oak for 12 months. Fewer than 1,000 cases of this experimental wine were made (and these kinds of experimental Tuscans can be the most sought after in the world, so jump on it).
Slap-bang in the middle of Chianti Classico territory, where the days are hot, the nights are chilly, the soil is harsh on the vines and the grapes produce delicious fruit in protest at it all. Given to the monks of the Abbey of Badia in Passignano around 1200, Vecchie Terre di Montefili has been producing wine for the best part of a millennium. Roccaldo Acuti bought the land in 1979 and now his family and Winemaker Tommaso Paglione create unpretentious classics on the regular.
