About the wine

Its a family affair as Sly and the Family Stone famously sang. Set up by Jacques Malan and passed to his sons Anton and Francis, this is the familys pride and joy: the Family Reserve. Grapes are lovingly plucked from their oldest vines to make just ten barrels in only the finest of vintages. John Platter gave it 4.5 out of 5. Could there be a better wine to serve your family?

Tasting notes

The nose is rich and layered, offering aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, and plum, seamlessly woven with notes of cedar, cigar box, and graphite. On the palate, fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity create a structured yet silky mouthfeel, leading to a long, sophisticated finish with lingering hints of spice and dark chocolate.

About the winemaker

This is proper family endeavour. Dr Jacques Malan gave up his practice to pursue his love of wine. Now his son Anton makes the wine and his other son Francois tends the vines of the 22 hectare estate in Stellenbosch. The vineyards rise up from the valley floor to 550m above sea level high up the Jonkershoek Mountain.
