Menard-Gaborit Muscadet Fût de Chêne
£17.00 (inc VAT)
A song of citrus and stone and salt. Sometimes music is wasted on the ears.
Clear and crystalline with green and silver reflections: like a woodland bride in a forest gown. Muscadet is made with Melon de Bourgogne, which is quite a neutrally flavoured grape. This is good, because aging “sur lie” (where the wine stays in contact with the yeast cells after fermentation) could potentially bring out faults in something with a stronger flavour. Instead you get a lovely minerality, here balanced stylishly with oaky flavours. A lot of thought went into this.
The Domaine Ménard-Gaborit dates back to 1734. Today, Philippe and Thierry Ménard - the 5th generation of their family to work the vineyards – work smart as well as hard: in 2008 they received “Reasoned Agriculture” certification by the French Minister of Agriculture and by 2015 they’d reached the HVE (High Environmental Value), the highest rank for the reasoned agriculture certification.
