We are so glad to meet Barolo's graceful and brooding sister.
Too long has Barolo, the King of Italian red wines, outshone his sister, Barbaresco. In fact, Barbaresco, a tiny village on the other side of Alba has a mere 640 hectares compared to the powerful Barolo which has 1,700 hectares. We are so happy to have our first Barbaresco to grace our shelves here at Humble Grape, and we are so happy to have finally met Barolo's brooding sister. Regardless of spending two years in 20-hectolitre oak barrels followed by six months in the bottle, Massimo's Barbaresco offers tones of roses, sweet spices and a dash of cocoa.
Land is land. Wine is wine. Massimo's wines argue otherwise. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Alba, lies Massimo Rattalino's small vineyard in the recognised UNESCO World Heritage site, Barbaresco. Prudent and passionate for this legendary land, Massimo looks after his vineyards with the utmost care, and is guided by a respect for tradition.
