Denis is an environmentalist political junkie. He had stints as the Associate Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Conservation, Minister of Land, the purchased a plot in the Gibbston Valley and planted Pinot Noir in 2001. He is the descendant of the 19th century naturalist William Swainson, a Fellow of the Royal Society, settled in New Zealand and named his first home "Hawkshead."
This Pinot Noir brings together three exceptional grape selections: bold and seductive Bannockburn, fruity Lowburn, and aromatic Gibbston grapes. Each variety complements the other, creating a classic Central Otago Pinot Noir.
This medium-bodied wine is instantly appealing, with rich notes of dark fruits like plums, black currants, and ripe cherries. You’ll also taste hints of mocha spice and a touch of wood smoke. As you sip, subtle flavors of dark chocolate and raspberry add complexity.
With its balanced acidity and velvety tannins, this wine has a smooth, silky finish that lingers. It’s delicious now but also has excellent aging potential, making it a great choice for Pinot Noir lovers who want to enjoy it over the next decade.
