Dutton Goldfield Morelli Lane Zinfandel, 2017, Russian River Valley, California, USA
£60.25 (inc VAT)
100 year old, old-vine Zinfandel from the town of Occidental, incidentally.
This Zinfandel comes from vines planted in the 19th Century that survived Prohibition near a town called Occidental in the Russian River Valley. This is a tiny plot that was left unfarmed for 100 years until Steve and Dan found and saved it. It produces super niche Californian Zinfandel that will be unlike many others.
Dutton Goldfield was born in 1998 out of a friendship between Steve Dutton, a 5th generation farmer who has worked on vineyards since the age of 5, and Dan Goldfield, a seasoned winemaker who has worked at Robert Mondavi and La Crema. Both loved the cool climate vineyards of Sonoma's Russian River Valley and so decided to join forces.
