Dutton Goldfield Freestone Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir

From the very cusp of where winemaking becomes impossible in the Russian River Valley.
Steve and Dan treat this wine more gently than their other Pinot Noirs. It is very special to them as it comes from right on the very cusp of where winemaking becomes impossible in the Russian River Valley and so is only produced in the finest years in tiny quantities like 600 cases. They delicately age it for 17 months in Fouquet barrels, which give sweet woody notes, and Sequin Moreau Icone barrels, which impart a more savoury mushroom note.
Dutton Goldfield was born in 1998 out of a friendship between Steve Dutton, a 5th generation farmer who has worked on vineyards since the age of 5, and Dan Goldfield, a seasoned winemaker who has worked at Robert Mondavi and La Crema. Both loved the cool climate vineyards of Sonoma‰۪s Russian River Valley and so decided to join forces.
