Decadence, cream and upbeat citrus. Dive in
About the wine
Good things come from small parcels located on dramatic Stellenbosch hourglass-shaped slopes that will even give those hardy honey badgers the heebie-jeebies. Hard work and the passage of time are essential ingredients in rendering the Bartinney Hourglass Chardonnay that exudes creaminess balancing on a tightrope before it takes a dive into a pool of rich citrus fruit. Only 700 bottles were vinified, but you may have a brawl with Humble Grape wine geeks or a honey badger to get your hands on the very small allocation that we just imported into the UK.
Tasting notes
A wine with fresh citrus minerality, exuding vibrancy and purity. On the palate, it’s rich and penetrating, with a fine, subtle creaminess that lingers elegantly.
About the winemaker
Established in 1912, Bartinney has been in the Jordaan family since 1953. Now Michael and Rose Jordaan tend to the 28-hectare farm, with a vision to create excellent wines and reawaken the charm of the historic land. And charming is right: perched on the dramatic slopes of Botmaskop alongside the Helshoogte Pass, overlooking the picturesque Banghoek Valley in Stellenbosch. Google it if you want to feel disappointed in the view from your own front window.
