Omerta, dark, mysterious, baking spices, dried cranberries. Perfect with all food. This guy is no joke, it's begging to be served chilled with a cheese platter.
About the wine
Blackwater's Omerta, is named after the Mafia term "code of silence", and is a 100 percent Carignan beauty from our friend Francois Haasbroek. A modern take on Omerta is: "Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without police protection is both." Drinking this will not necessarily lead to you a life of crime but it might harden the toughest of men.
For Blackwater Omerta, the name likely reflects the wine’s understated, unpretentious nature—quietly confident, yet full of character and depth. It could also hint at the winemaker’s philosophy of letting the wine speak for itself, without manipulation or intervention.
Tasting notes
Mouthfeel rich and smooth. Intense and medium-bodied on the palate with darker plum notes, herbal tones, dried flowers, and fresh leather. Persistent acidity.Subtle notes of Umami may also be found.
About the winemaker
Francois Haasbroek is, in our opinion, the man who put Waterford Estate on the map and made it the Stellenbosch legend it is today. But he always had a dream of going it alone. So, after clocking out for the day, he’d set off in search of overlooked vineyards—the kind whose grapes would quietly vanish into big blends. Then, while the rest of the world slept, he’d stay up until 3 a.m., coaxing them into something special. A few hours later, he’d be back at Waterford, ready to do it all over again.
