Casata Mergè Venere Bianco

Malvasia + trebbiano, an eclectic & elegant marriage endorsed by the Goddess of Love herself.
Malvasia is a grape variety that doesn't get a lot of love. Malvasia puntinata gives higher quality fruits than other species in the family, but has poor disease resistance and so often gets ignored. Trebbiano, on the other hand, is robust and widely planted, but with a rep for being undistinguished. So in this bottle we've got a delicate flower waiting to be noticed, and a common-as- muck grafter in need of refinement. Sounds like a love story to us. Venus/Venere must have approved, because this pair is eclectic but a match made in Heaven.
On the border between Frascati and Monte Porzio Catone, in an area so picturesque the ancient Romans used to holiday there, live the disgustingly photogenic Mergè family. They treat the land they live on and their viticulture heritage as a precious gift, and try to create wines that respect and reflect that gift. The fact that the land is perfect for supporting old (like, century-old) vines helps a lot with that, but no one could deny that the secret is the hard work all three generations of the Mergè family put in.
