California is full of Rued Clones. This is the original.
About the wine
To rue is to bitterly regret. Well there is absolutely nothing bitter about this and you certainly won't regret it if you try it. Warren Dutton planted this in 1969 and it has produced aromatic and floral wines of such high quality that cuttings from it, called Rued Clones, have been propagated across California.
Tasting notes
On the nose, the wine presents exotic lychee with orange blossom, pear compote, a hint of butterscotch, and a side of citrus. On the palate, it offers flavours of citrus blossom, lemon, olive oil, guava, mango, ginger, crème brûlée, toast, stone notes, cream, and lemon meringue pie. The wine is rich yet refreshing, with a long, succulent finish that perfectly balances the complexity and brightness of the fruit.
About the winemaker
Dutton Goldfield was born in 1998 out of a friendship between Steve Dutton, a 5th generation farmer who has worked on vineyards since the age of 5, and Dan Goldfield, a seasoned winemaker who has worked at Robert Mondavi and La Crema. Both loved the cool climate vineyards of Sonoma's Russian River Valley and so decided to join forces.
