Bodegas Paco Garcia Crianza, 2016, Rioja DOCa, Spain - MAGNUM
£47.50 (inc VAT)
Experimental research project leading to a wine that has young people in mind.
This Crianza level wine benefits from 12 months in two-year-old oak casks, and comes from a 90% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha blend from three vineyards, which boast vines averaging 25 years of age. The "Vina de los tres Marqueses" or The Three Marquis vineyard is located in one of Rioja's most famous areas and is where some of the more revered and best Rioja wine's vines are located.
Juan Bautista Garcia (the "young man" as he describes himself), is Paco's son, after taking the reins at the Bodegas he started to wonder why young people, like him, had stopped buying and drinking wine. To answer this generational decline in consumption, Juan turned the family business into an R&D project, setting out to answer the age-old question, how does one find a likable, attractive wine, which people can enjoy, that he would like and that would allow him to make a living from his passion!
