Dr. Deinhard Spätburgunder, 2016/17, Pfalz, Germany
£23.50 (inc VAT)
Cistercian monks brought Pinot Noir from Clos de Vougeot to their convent in the Rheingau.
Deinhard with a vengeance. Dr Deinhard is not the latest instalment of the Bruce Willis film franchise, it is the sister winery from the lovely guys behind Von Winning (Deinhard is the more traditional side versus Von Winning's experimentalism). Delicate yet ripe aromas of red blackcurrants and cherries are surrounded by soft wooden hues.
Von Winning is a new venture born from the original Deinhard winery established in 1849 in Deidesheim. And it was no surprise when French wine guide Gault & Millau gave them a Newcomer of the year 2012 award. They said that: "The Managing director is as idiosyncratic as the wines are - a real personality! A huge gain for Deidesheim and the German wine scene."
