The name is from the beautiful red slate soils covering the vineyard, helping to give a whole new dimension to the wine.
About the wine
The rare red slate always gives this Riesling a mineral flavor. Powerful, gripping, but never exhausting. Perfect balance. Unmistakably Würtzberg! Some texture from being fermented in giant German oak barrels compliment the dry, fresh, fruity style. Truly scrumptious!
Tasting notes
On the nose, this Riesling is intensely floral, reminiscent of a flower shop, with additional aromas of red currant, lime, lemon, wet stone, and herbs. The palate mirrors the aromatic intensity, offering engaging flavors supported by lively acidity.
About the winemaker
Never have we been blown away so quickly with the quality of a new producer! Annelena, and her 26 year old winemaker brother Felix Heimes are the dynamic duo making the magic happen.
Produced on 12 hectares of some of the steepest slopes in the wine world, so everything is done by hand (far too steep for those poor old tractors!). Originally planted way back in 1898 by Maria Puricelli who also helped to build the original estate, the Heimes family now own this amazing, sustainable, winery, and keep getting better year after year.
