Soutiran Cuvée Alexandre 1er Cru Brut, NV, Champagne, France
Sparkling
750ml
£57.25 (inc VAT)
Inherited by Alain and Roselyne from Gérard and Solange. We call this Alexandre the Great.
Produced from grapes grown in premier cru vineyards, this is fruity, balanced and universally appealing. Its perfect poise is no accident: the blend is recreated annually for each cuvee by laboratory tests, followed by blind tasting. This is non-vintage but has plenty of the 2008 harvest in it (a knock-out year for champagne). Yay science!
Based in Ambonnay, one of the 17 grand cru villages in Champagne. Valerie and Patrick Renaux are the third generation that began in the Montagne de Reims with Val's grandfather, Gérard Soutiran. Gerard was an orphan raised by a viticulturist who then took over his caretaker's vineyard after a career in the Army. Would you watch that movie? We'd watch that movie.
